Chairman's message
Welcome to the website of the Commission des services juridiques, the agency charged with administering Québec's legal aid system.
In addition to learning more about the history of Québec's legal aid system and network and obtaining legal information, by visiting our website you can find out the eligibility criteria for free legal aid services and for services requiring a contribution and even quickly check your financial eligibility using an online tool.
Since January 1, 2016, a person who is single and works 35 hours a week at minimum wage is eligible for legal aid at no cost. Moreover, a person could also be eligible for legal aid in return for a maximum contribution ranging from $100 to $800, depending on their family's financial situation. Please refer to the page Services requiring a contribution for more information. You can also contact staff at the legal aid office nearest you in order to determine your eligibility.
Aside from information about the legal aid system, our site also contains useful links about the "services other than legal aid" offered by the Commission des services juridiques. Thus, you can get information about the Service administratif de rajustement des pensions alimentaires pour enfants (SARPA) [child support recalculation service] and about legal representation in a mega-trial or when a lawyer is designated by court order under the Criminal Code.
In addition, the "Review Committee" tab contains all the information you need for filing an application with that Committee.
Until next time, enjoy your visit.
Me Daniel LaFrance
